Court sentences four kidnappers to death by hanging in Edo
The Edo State Special Criminal Court has sentenced four men to death by hanging for their involvement in the kidnapping of a woman in Benin City.
Justice Aigbona Momodu delivered the judgment on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, in the court’s first kidnapping case since it was established.
The convicts, Isaac Marvelous, Gift Raphael, Wisdom Michael and Rufus Michael, were prosecuted on an 11-count charge involving kidnapping, conspiracy, armed robbery, cultism and unlawful possession of firearms.
Marvelous, identified as the gang leader, was found guilty on all 11 counts and sentenced to death. The court also ordered that the convicts could be executed through lethal injection.
Recall Dockaysworld reported that the woman was abducted in broad daylight on June 14, 2026, at the Vegetable Market along Airport Road in Benin City.
The court also imposed additional prison terms on the convicts and ordered that firearms recovered during the investigation be handed over to the Federal Government.
The Edo State Special Criminal Court was established on July 1, 2026, to handle kidnapping and cultism cases and speed up the prosecution of violent crimes in the state.
