44 Players Fail Nigeria’s National League One Medical
Nationwide League One (NLO) has announced the release of 44 players ahead of the 2025 season due to health-related concerns.
The lower-tier league disclosed this in an official statement on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday.
“A total of 44 players have been released by Nationwide League One (NLO) after medical check-ups revealed health issues.
“The NLO emphasized the importance of regular medical examinations to prevent potential sudden deaths among players.
“The affected players come from 31 teams registered for the 2025 season, with Offa Football Club having the highest number at six players.
“Dr Ayo, the NLO’s Medical Consultant, confirmed these players are unfit due to underlying medical conditions, including systemic hypertension.
“NLO’s Chief Operating Officer, Olushola Ogunnowo stated that comprehensive pre-season medical checks are standard, and the 44 players will miss the 2025 season due to health concerns, reiterating the necessity of rigorous health assessments for all players in the league.”
