Police arraign 2 men over alleged assault, threat to life

 

Two men, Ife Akinrotimi, 28, and Augustine Adejah ,31, were on Friday arrainged  in an Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State over alleged assault and threat to life.

The defendants, a trader and hunter, whose addresses were not given, are facing a three-count charge bordering on felony, assault and threat to life.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges leveled against them.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Philip Akinlosetu, granted them bail in the sum of N400, 000 each and two sureties each in like sums.

Akinlosetu said that the sureties must reside within the court jurisdiction and present evidence of two years tax payment to the state government.

He adjourned the case until July 29, for further hearing.

Earlier, the prosecutor, ASP Zedekiah Orogbemi, told the court that the defendants and others still at large, on March 28 around 11:00 a.m at Iwala in Igbotako, Okitipupa magisterial district conspired to commit felony.

Orogbemi alleged that the defendants conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by forcefully entering the farmland of Sunday Olowodugba over undisclosed land tussle.

He alleged that the defendants macheted Olowodugba which caused him severe injuries and bodily harm.

The prosecutor further alleged that the defendants during the fracas threatened to kill the complainant over the land dispute.

He said that the offences are punishable under Sections 517, 355 and 82, Criminal Code, Cap.37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006. (NAN)
